Bluestone Holiday Park

A new development of luxury timber lodges located in the heart of Pembrokeshire’s National Park has benefited from the high performance products and technical expertise of leading paint manufacturer Johnstone’s.

Members of Johnstone’s technical advisory team worked closely with specialist contractors R & M Williams to devise a paint specification suitable for the Bluestone development, meeting all aesthetic and maintenance requirements.

Set within two woodland vales, the first phase of the Bluestone development comprises 186 timber lodges and, as a year-round holiday destination, the use of a specialist woodstain was required to help protect the timber. The technical advisory team suggested Johnstone’s Matt Woodstain, a durable woodstain that offers a low-maintenance solution in addition to an attractive natural finish that would complement the breathtaking surroundings of the development.

Specifically formulated to provide easy maintenance Johnstone’s Matt Woodstain comes in a simple two-coat application system, helping to reduce labour costs. The unique formulation of Johnstone’s Matt Woodstain provides a highly protective microporous coating which resists cracking, blistering and peeling, and is ideal for treating rough sawn and smooth planed timber, bargeboards, cladding, windows and doors. The range is available in 11 ready mixed colours and on this occasion Light and Medium Oak were used.

Johnstone’s also supplied high quality paint products for the luxury interiors of the timber lodges, which featured a specific natural colour scheme. Using its innovative 32 colorant tinting system, which is the first of its kind in the UK, Johnstone’s replicated the desired colours. Compatible for use with the majority of products offered by Johnstone’s, including emulsions, trims and specialist finishes; the Johnstone’s 32 colorant tinting system caters for limitless design options and has lead to significant product performance improvements in terms of compatibility, opacity and drying performance.

Andrew Hedditch from R & M Williams comments, “We felt Johnstone’s was far superior and more suitable for the Bluestone contract. Through a joint management effort, we worked closely with Johnstone’s to create a precise specification for the project and are extremely happy with the end result.”

The ambitious £110 million scheme is one of the largest construction projects to have been completed in Wales and has seen the creation of a ‘new’ traditional Celtic Village. In addition to the high specification holiday lodges, the Bluestone development comprises cottages, studios, shops, restaurants and luxury leisure facilities catering for UK holidaymakers.
