Caistor Holiday Park

Following an extensive refurbishment project, the combined restaurant and bar building at Caister Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth has a fresh and smart appearance, thanks to the protection and high quality finish of Johnstone’s Self Cleaning Masonry.
Part of the Haven Holidays group, Caister Holiday Park is located close to the shoreline and as a result its paintwork is extremely vulnerable to the discolouring effects of the weather. Members of Johnstone’s technical team worked closely with contractors Elm Contracts to specify a product that would provide ultimate protection for the building, keep it looking cleaner for longer and help minimise maintenance costs.

David Cooper, Painter Manager at Elm Contracts, comments, “The combined restaurant and bar building at Caister boasts an unusual pentagon shape but had suffered extensive weathering.

“We originally specified a standard smooth masonry paint but after hearing of the newly launched Self Cleaning Masonry range we decided to change the specification. Johnstone’s Self Cleaning Masonry offers a more cost effective solution thanks to its self cleaning properties and it covered well on the new render.”

Developed to keep exteriors looking cleaner for longer, Johnstone’s Self Cleaning Masonry resists the dulling effects of pollution, weathering and time. Significantly reducing maintenance requirements, the paint’s self-cleaning properties ensure that, after just one application, a building’s exterior retains its aesthetic appeal for longer without the need to be repainted or cleaned.

The new exterior coating features microscopic nano particles, which at one billionth of a metre, are invisible to the human eye. These tiny particles adhere to the surface, transforming the normal crater effect of a painted surface into an extremely smooth finish to which dust and dirt simply cannot adhere.

As well as utilising the very latest technology, the nanometric painting system also harnesses a more natural force – rain. Whereas most standard masonry products repel water, Johnstone’s Stormshield Self Cleaning Masonry works in the opposite way as it actually attracts water to its surface.  Any dirt particles that may be present will therefore be simply washed away by the rain to leave a streak-free finish.
