Sandwell Homes
Sandwell Homes, an Arms Length Management Organisation, has joined forces with leading coatings manufacturer Johnstone’s to carry out the internal redecoration of over 30,000 homes.
In a bid to ensure all of its properties meet the Government’s Decent Homes Standard, Sandwell Homes has appointed Johnstone’s to advise and supply products for the refurbishment of its properties.
The extensive contract was awarded to Johnstone’s following the establishment of a strong working relationship with Sandwell Homes that dates back to 2005. Johnstone’s Key Account Manager Bryan Parkes explains further; “Having had dealings with Sandwell Homes for a number of years, we worked collectively to produce a portfolio of bespoke colour options and suitable practical wall coverings. To ensure the smooth seamless running of the project, not only did the chosen products have to successfully meet the specific requirements of the housing association but stock availability at the local Johnstone’s Leyland Decorating Centre also had to guaranteed for the duration of the 7 year contract.”
For the interior redecoration of the properties, which includes kitchen and bathrooms, Johnstone’s has suggested the use of its low-odour, quick drying Aqua Gloss and Undercoat and its durable Covaplus Vinyl Matt emulsion. The bespoke design scheme also features the use of various wall coverings from Fine Décor’, Easy Tex and Johnstone’s Contractor’s Choice Book, all of which are being supplied via the local Decorating Centre.
In addition to liaising closely with its supply chain to monitor stock levels, the Johnstone’s Technical Advisory department is also working alongside the three main contractors involved in the project, Wates Living Space, Connaught and Taylor Woodrow, to ensure that any technical queries are dealt with promptly and effectively.
The contract is set to run until 2012 and according to Simon Parry, Head of Partnership Management for Sandwell Homes, work is progressing well; “The Decent Homes Standard requires social housing to meet the current statutory minimum standard, be in a reasonable state of repair and have reasonably modern facilities. Johnstone’s has been crucial in ensuring we not only meet but exceed this standard and we hope to continue this partnership for the foreseeable future.”
The successfully progression of the interior redecoration has also led to Johnstone’s appointment to supply products for the exterior refurbishment of 20,000 properties. To provide a high quality solution and protection from the elements, Johnstone’s recommended the use of its Stormshield Pliolite Masonry paint alongside its Professional Gloss. The exterior wooden doors and communal fencing will also benefit from the use of Johnstone’s Satin Wood Stain.
